Klinik Hirslanden
Oncology and Haematology
Klinik Hirslanden is among the leading providers in the field of oncology and haematology in Europe.
Diagnosis
International patients will normally have had their diagnosis already, but Klinik Hirslanden offers full diagnostic facilities including magnetic resonance tomography (MRI), computer tomography (CT) and nuclear medicine. See the Hirslanden Scanning Services page.
Whichever of these courses is the best for you, Klinik Hirslanden offers an advanced range of options and high standards of care.
Patients can now submit their own scans by internet and we feature private scanning centres in many countries which can provide scans in the required digital format. Specialised teams of physicians then decide on the best therapy procedures for each individual patient. It may be surgery, radiotherapy/ radiosurgery, medical oncology or a combination of these.
Medical Oncology
Surgery
The da Vinci® 'robotic' surgery system displays internal images at up to ten times magnification and relays the surgeon's hand movements.
In medical oncology, chemotherapy as well as hormonal or immunotherapies are used. In order to minimise side effects more effectively regular specialist examinations during and immediately after therapy are essential.
Minimally invasive operation technologies are used wherever possible. The advantages are less pain, quicker mobility, shorter rehabilitation and minimal scar formation.
In urology Klinik Hirslanden has taken a further step towards greater precision by offering da Vinci® minimally invasive robotic surgery. The word 'robotic' is commonly used but 'telemanipulation' is a more accurate term.
This system transfers the hand movements of the surgeon to the instruments that have been inserted through small incisions in the abdomen. The surgeon then controls the movements via a three-dimensional view with a one to ten times magnification.
A tremor filter suppresses the trembling of the human hand and together these provide a high degree of precision.
The robotic surgery system minimises the incision for the patient and enables the surgeon to work more precisely. The success of the operation still depends ultimately upon the skill of the surgeon though, so Klinik Hirslanden only uses experienced and well-trained specialists in this field.
